Lumineers

This is a trademarked non-invasive dental technique by Cerinate that corrects some cosmetic issues with teeth. Lumineers are made of porcelain as thin as a contact lens. They are applied to teeth with cement and bonded with a laser. The are just as strong as Veneers, but cost more.

Lumineers have been proven to last for 20 years and are reversible.

Veneers

To improve the shape of the tooth or to protect a damaged tooth a veneer may be applied made of dental porcelain or composite material. Usually veneers are constructed in a dental laboratory and then later glued to the tooth using a resin cement like Panavia.

Veneers are an important tool for cosmetic dentistry to improve the aesthetics of your smile. Veneers are good for replacing discolored or cracked teeth for restoration. However it is not recommended for young people who have healthy teeth.

Teeth Whitening

There are several ways that you can whiten your teeth. The dentist can bleach your teeth. You can bleach your teeth yourself at home or you can use teeth-whitening toothpastes. Not all whiteners will be effective if for example your teeth are brownish or grayish.

If teeth whitening doesn’t help you have a brighter smile you might want to learn more about veneers.

Dentists will apply a protective gel or rubber shield to protect your gums. A bleaching agent is the applied to your teeth. A special light is used to enhance the whitening action. Lasers are also used to enhance whitening. The procedure shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

At home you can try peroxide based whiteners. The bleaching agent is based on carbamide peroxide in 10% to 22% concentrations. It is placed in a mouth-guard that you bit down on. Make sure that you follow the instructions carefully so that you do not irritate your mouth tissues. The process can be done twice a day for about two weeks. Some whitening kits are designed for over night use.

Make sure you choose a whitening product that has the ADA Seal of Acceptance on it.
