Teeth Whitening

There are several ways that you can whiten your teeth. The dentist can bleach your teeth. You can bleach your teeth yourself at home or you can use teeth-whitening toothpastes. Not all whiteners will be effective if for example your teeth are brownish or grayish.

If teeth whitening doesn’t help you have a brighter smile you might want to learn more about veneers.

Dentists will apply a protective gel or rubber shield to protect your gums. A bleaching agent is the applied to your teeth. A special light is used to enhance the whitening action. Lasers are also used to enhance whitening. The procedure shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

At home you can try peroxide based whiteners. The bleaching agent is based on carbamide peroxide in 10% to 22% concentrations. It is placed in a mouth-guard that you bit down on. Make sure that you follow the instructions carefully so that you do not irritate your mouth tissues. The process can be done twice a day for about two weeks. Some whitening kits are designed for over night use.

Make sure you choose a whitening product that has the ADA Seal of Acceptance on it.
